CODEV-NIC is a free domain names registry program. It allows the registry to register names and manages them afterwards. It can produce automatically a DNS zone file from the database and it includes a whois server.

The main feature of CODEV-NIC is that it is multi-policy (every TLD has different registration rules).

CODEV-NIC has been developed by three registries acting in common, .ci (Ivory Coast), .mg (Madagascar) and .fr (France).

CODEV-NIC provides:

• A database, with integrity constraints,
• A whois server,
• A DNS zone file generator,
• An interface to a task tracking system (Request Tracker), for asynchronous tasks,
• A library to access the database,
• The hooks interface to add custom checks and/or treatments,
• A XML-RPC interface (and an experimental REST interface). It is recommended to use it instead of the access library.
